Supply and Machining Capabilities

The production route is selected according to the required diameter, wall thickness, length, quantity and material condition.

Depending on the size and specification, C17200 tubular products may be supplied as seamless drawn or extruded tube, machined hollow bar or heavy-wall sleeve. Large thick-wall sections are reviewed separately to confirm the appropriate production and heat-treatment route.

Available processing includes cut-to-length, end facing, boring, turning, honing, grinding and deburring. Internal diameter, outside diameter, wall thickness, ovality, straightness and surface finish are confirmed against the agreed specification or drawing.

Quality and Inspection

Inspection can include chemical composition, tensile properties, hardness, electrical conductivity, OD, ID, wall thickness, ovality, straightness and surface condition according to the agreed quality plan.

Ultrasonic, eddy-current or pressure/leak testing can be arranged for suitable products when included in the order requirements. The test method, reference standard and acceptance criteria should be agreed before production.

Material Test Certificates, heat-treatment records and dimensional inspection reports are available as specified. Chemical analysis and destructive mechanical testing are normally performed by heat, production lot or representative sample.

Typical Applications

Aerospace components where C17200 is specified · Oil and gas equipment · Heavy-duty sleeves and hollow shafts · Precision mold cooling components · Electrical and electromechanical parts · Automotive and industrial sensors · Wear-resistant tubular components · Precision machinery · Low-sparking equipment components subject to application-specific assessment

FAQ

What standard applies to C17200 beryllium copper tube?

ASTM B643/B643M may apply to applicable seamless copper-beryllium tube. If the product is made from bar, forging or another hollow feedstock, the applicable raw-material standard and the customer’s drawing or purchase specification will govern the final product.

What is the difference between a tube and a hollow bar?

A tube is normally supplied as a tubular product with specified OD, ID, wall thickness and length. A hollow bar or sleeve is often produced as heavy-wall or machined stock and may be controlled mainly by the customer’s drawing rather than a standard tube specification.

What sizes are available?

Typical supply covers 10–200 mm OD, 1.5–25 mm wall thickness and 500–6000 mm lengths. Larger diameters, heavier walls and non-standard combinations are available subject to technical review.

Can you supply seamless beryllium copper tubes?

Seamless drawn or extruded tubes may be available depending on the required size, condition, quantity and production route. Large heavy-wall sections may instead be supplied as machined hollow bars or sleeves.

What material conditions are available?

Solution-treated, cold-worked, mill-hardened and precipitation-hardened conditions can be considered. The correct condition depends on the required strength, hardness, conductivity and downstream machining process.

Can these tubes be used for pressure applications?

Pressure-service suitability cannot be assumed from the alloy alone. The design pressure, temperature, wall thickness, joining method, safety factor and required pressure or leak test must be reviewed and agreed before production.

Can you achieve tight OD, ID or wall-thickness tolerances?

Selected dimensions may achieve tight tolerances, but capability depends on diameter, wall thickness, length, ovality, straightness, heat-treatment condition and inspection method. Final tolerances should be confirmed against the drawing.

Can ultrasonic or pressure testing be provided?

Yes, when suitable for the product geometry and included in the agreed inspection plan. The test procedure and acceptance criteria must be confirmed before production.

Can you provide C17500 or C17510 tubes?

Yes, subject to size and material availability. C17500 and C17510 are different copper-beryllium alloys with different strength, conductivity and heat-treatment requirements. They should be quoted separately from C17200.

Are these tubes suitable for high-temperature service?

Service suitability depends on temperature, exposure time, load and required retained properties. Prolonged elevated-temperature exposure can cause overaging or stress relaxation, so the application should be reviewed individually.
